ABOUT

Emily was introduced to yoga by her high school boyfriend’s hippie mom when she was fifteen in Shoreline, Washington.

She began to study yoga seriously in college at the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown where she simultaneously studied painting and dance. Art, academia (philosophy, research, rigor) and yoga are all inectricably linked in her practice and in her teaching.

Returning to the mountains, rivers and coastlines of the Pacific Northwest Emily’s yoga practice bloomed in the underground punkrock yoga zine scene of Poseurs, developed by magickal Emily Denton on Capitol Hill in Seattle Washington. Other important teachers include Eiric Ovrid of Samadhi and later Yoga on Beacon and Troy Lucero of the Acme Yoga Project. She graduated from Emily Denton and Alyssa’s Yackley’s inaugural Practice School of Magic 200 hr ytt in 2017 the summer before entering the University of Washington’s MFA program for Painting and Drawing in Seattle.

Covid #trucklife landed Emily and her brown dog Toast in Packwood, Washington, a remote mountain town nestled in the Cowlitz river valley between Mountain Rainier and the Goat Rocks where she founded Packwood School of Yoga. PSoY serves retirees (including 90 year olds), preschoolers (including her red headed three year old, Henry Huckleberry), through hikers (we’re located just off the PCT), lifties, ski patrol, (and other employees/clients of White Pass) forest service, park service, tourists from all over the world (we’re near the Ohanapecosh entrance to Rainier National Park), mamas and daddys, home schoolers and teens, grandmas, grandfathers, snow birds, grievers, cancer survivors, astrologers, locals, entreprenuers, people with lower back pain and bros.

Retreats at Rockland Woods are a collaboration with Emily’s friend and former neighbor Jodi Rockwell on her property outside Bremerton, a ferry ride away from downtown Seattle.
